DENVER – Five children were recovered and 35 adults were arrested during a crackdown on sex trafficking and prostitution in the Denver area.
The crackdown was last week, during World Cannabis Week, officials said.
The FBI said nearly 40 percent of escorts contacted during the sting told police they traveled to Colorado for the event.
“Whenever an event draws people from around the world, you will see an increase in sex trafficking,” said FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Thomas Ravenelle.
Officials said one of the recovered minors, a 15-year-old, was transported to Colorado from California by traffickers specifically for “420 Week.”
Of the adults arrested, nine were arrested for trafficking and 26 were arrested for prostitution, the FBI said.
Investigators said one of the arrested adults, James Brent Anderson, allegedly made arrangements with an undercover officer to purchase a 7-year-old for sex.
