Sometimes the sentences dished out by judges completely baffle me. This week David Collier was sent to prison for three years and four months for growing cannabis.
Admittedly he was growing it on a pretty impressive scale, and was running it as a commercial operation, but Collier was 70, started growing the drugs to ease his arthritis, was using the extra cash to prop up a failing business and pleaded guilty to his crimes.
So for that Judge Paul Darlow handed the Plymouth pensioner a serious prison sentence.
