A MAN who sexually assaulted a teenage girl in bushes more than eight years ago has been jailed for five years.
Shane John Anderton attacked a 15-year-old girl after approaching her as she waited for a bus at Fremantle train station in June 2010.
After telling the teenager he could get her cigarettes, the pair took public transport to an inner-city apartment where the girl — who was already intoxicated — was given more alcohol and cannabis.
When the cannabis made the victim paranoid and scared, she walked outside and Anderton followed.
Anderton took hold of the victim’s wrist and led her to bushes where he raped her on the ground.
The girl reported the rape to police the next day. However, Anderton was not charged until 2016 after a review of the case, which included DNA evidence taken at the time, which linked Anderton to the crime.
