Most people spend their final week before Christmas preparing for the festivities ahead.
But not midwife Wendy Anderson.
She spent her week frantically searching the crack houses of Nottingham looking for a sex worker who was due to give birth.
Former nurse Wendy, 47, of Nottingham, is the only dedicated substance misuse midwife in the whole of the county and is responsible for up to 150 pregnant women a year.
These women, some as young as 13, are addicted to heroin, crack cocaine, cannabis and alcohol.
And if that cocktail of substances wasn’t enough, she has been hit with a new wave of drugs – in the form of black mamba – which is having a devastating impact on young mums in Nottingham.
