Deal Lets Atheist Leader Ellenbeth Wachs End Criminal Cases

Ellenbeth Wachs, the Atheists of Florida’s legal coordinator, ended her criminal cases Thursday. Prosecutors offered a deal to Wachs to resolve her legal matters without a conviction on her record and her felony charges are to be dropped.

Prosecutors offered a deal to Wachs to resolve her legal matters without a conviction on her record and her felony charges are to be dropped.

For the past several months, Wachs has been charged in three separate criminal cases.

She has maintained that she was targeted because of her beliefs as well as an ongoing federal lawsuit to stop prayer before meetings of the Lakeland City Commission.

Wachs also has filed a federal lawsuit against Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd that alleges her arrests were retaliation against her secular views.

Both lawsuits remain pending.
